AMERICUS, GA (October 15, 2024) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) will celebrate Homecoming and Family Weekend Oct. 21-26. All GSW alumni, families, friends and members of the community are invited to attend the festivities.
Wednesday, Oct. 23: Men’s Soccer
- Men’s Soccer will take on Flagler College at 7:30 p.m. at Hurricane field. Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the Hurricanes, who are currently undefeated at home this season. Admission is free, so bring your energy and help keep the home winning streak alive.
Friday, Oct. 25: Golf Tournament, Nursing Reunion, History Tours
- The 15th Annual President’s Classic Golf Tournament will start the weekend events off. This four-person scramble offers both morning and afternoon tee times, with lunch served to all players at noon. Register and learn more at gsw.edu/PresidentsClassic.
- A Nursing Reunion invites all nursing alumni, faculty, and staff for a brunch at 11 a.m., followed by tours of the newly named Phoebe Simulation & Learning Center. Register and pay for brunch at gsw.edu/NursingReunion.
- At Family Weekend Drop-In, Hurricane families arriving Friday can stop by the historic Windsor Hotel from 4-6 p.m. to pick up a Family Weekend Schedule and special gift. Enjoy a History Tour of the hotel at 4 p.m. and a Haunted History Tour of Americus at 5 p.m. Attendees will explore the history of the Windsor and areas of the hotel that are not usually accessible to the public.
Saturday, Oct. 26: Brunch, Softball, Bingo, Tailgate, Women’s Soccer
- Canes Family Brunch will start the day for alumni, students and their families from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Dining Hall. Reservations are not required, but a $10 payment (cash or card) is required at the door.
- Softball will play in a preseason exhibition match at 12 p.m. against Chipola College. Come out and preview this year’s Lady Canes before their season officially begins.
- Canes Bingo will take place from 1-2 p.m. as part of the Family Weekend events in the Student Success Center 2nd floor conference rooms near Chick-fil-A. All participants will have a chance to win exciting prizes.
- The Homecoming Tailgate will once again be a true tailgate experience for Hurricane fans. GSW alumni, families, organizations and businesses are invited to set up their own tailgate space - complete with tents, chairs, grills, food and drinks. Set-up opens at 9 a.m. between the soccer and softball fields, with direct road access available until 11 a.m. Reservations are not required; tailgate spots are first come, first serve.
- Women’s Soccer will take on Lander University starting at 5:00 p.m. at Hurricane Field. Admission is free. The 2024 Mr. & Miss GSW will be crowned during halftime.
Homecoming week kicks off for students Monday evening with the announcement of Class Representatives at the Homecoming Parade. Other student events include flag football games, the Blue and Gold Picnic, a concert and a block party.
