AMERICUS, GA (August 15, 2024) – Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) has been awarded the Chancellor’s Cup by University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Sonny Perdue, recognizing the institution’s outstanding 11.4 percent enrollment increase for the Summer 2024 semester. This marks the third consecutive semester that GSW has achieved the highest enrollment growth in its sector.
GSW’s total Summer 2024 enrollment reached 2,168 students, an increase of 223 students over the previous year. This achievement sets a new record for the university and marks the first time GSW’s summer enrollment has surpassed the 2,000-student threshold.
“Georgia Southwestern is honored to receive the Chancellor’s Cup for the third semester in a row,” said GSW President Michelle Johnston, Ph.D. “This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication of every GSW employee who works tirelessly to build a strong foundation for our students’ success. With a $100.8 million economic impact, GSW delivers exceptional value to our students and to our region. Our campus community remains laser-focused on fostering student success, enriching the campus experience, offering programs that align with the demands of our economy and graduating students who will make a meaningful and lasting impact on our region’s workforce.”
The increase was driven by significant growth across all academic programs. Undergraduate enrollment saw a 15 percent rise, totaling 1,330 students. Graduate programs also experienced substantial growth, with master’s enrollment reaching 455 students and specialist programs enrolling 383 students, representing a 16 percent increase.
GSW reported particularly strong growth in key areas, including dual enrollment, associate of science in nursing, computer science, and specialist in education programs.
As the Fall 2024 semester begins, GSW is on track to set another enrollment record, with over 3,700 students currently registered. The final Fall enrollment figures will be published by the University System of Georgia later this semester.
Although Fall classes have already begun, there is still time to apply and enroll before Tuesday, Aug. 20. Prospective students can find more information by visiting www.gsw.edu/admissions, emailing admissions@gsw.edu, or calling 229-928-1273.
