AMERICUS, GA (November 22, 2023) – Georgia Southwestern State University is mourning the loss of one of our most prestigious alumni, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter ’46.
To honor Mrs. Carter’s life and legacy, a wreath-laying service will take place on GSW’s campus on Monday, Nov. 27 at 11:00 a.m. in front of Carter I of the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex.
GSW President Neal Weaver, Ph.D., and Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers CEO Jennifer Olsen, Ph.D., will greet the Carter family and place two wreaths at the bronze statue of Mrs. Carter.
Glessner Street and GSW State University Drive will be closed from approximately 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, so guests are encouraged to arrive early. Public parking will be located in the Education Center, Library, Storm Dome, and softball/baseball field lots.

The Carter family motorcade will depart Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus at 10:40 a.m. The public is invited to pay respects along the motorcade route, which will be shared at a later date.
A condolence book for the Carter family will be located inside Carter I and available for members of the campus community and public to sign through Wednesday, Nov. 29. Hours can be found at the tribute site linked below.
