Georgia Southwestern's Office of Information and Instructional Technology has worked diligently to implement new services and expand wireless network services for students, faculty, and staff.
GSW is now a part of the eduroam world-wide roaming access service. The eduroam service was developed for the international research and education community and is available at higher education institutions throughout the United States, including all of the University System of Georgia’s campuses. Eduroam is also available at educational institutions and research facilities in more than 85 countries.
The eduroam service allows students and employees of participating institutions, such as GSW, to connect to wireless networks at any of the participating institutions.
To access an institution’s wireless network using eduroam, students and employees of GSW may connect to the eduroam SSiD (wireless network) and use their current Canesnet login name and password.
NOTE: GSW students and employees can now access the eduroam wireless service at any institution within the University System of Georgia (as well as educational institutions and research facilities in more than 85 countries)
Students and employees from other institutions may also connect to the eduroam wireless SSiD on the GSW campus with the username and password issued to them by their home institution.
An interactive map and listing of USG eduroam locations is available at gsw.edu/eduroam. Read more about eduroam implementation across all 26 USG institutions here.
GSW’s Office of Information and Instructional Technology has successfully deployed outdoor wireless internet connectivity in two locations on campus to accommodate social distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These locations include the Southwestern Pines courtyard and Chick-fil-A parking lot on the north side of campus, and the parking lot behind the Fine Arts Building (near the outdoor basketball court) on the south side of campus.
This will provide outdoor walk-up or drive-up wireless internet connectivity for GSW students, faculty, and staff (using CanesNet credentials to connect to the Canes SSiD or the eduroam SSiD) and students, faculty, and staff from other USG institutions (using the eduroam SSiD). Outdoor wireless coverage will also be coming to the courtyards of the Southwestern Oaks and Southwestern Magnolia residence halls this fall.
