Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp issued a new Executive Order which takes effect at 6:00pm on Friday, April 3, 2020 lasting until April 13, 2020 regarding COVID-19 and the Public Health Emergency. This Order includes the implementation of a statewide shelter in place directive with the exception of Critical Infrastructure.
The University System of Georgia (USG) and constituent entities, such as Georgia Southwestern, are considered Critical Infrastructure to the extent of which they are “educators supporting public and private K-12 schools, colleges, and universities for purposes of facilitating distance learning or performing other essential functions…”
The Order further allows for Necessary Travel to “conduct” (i.e. faculty or staff) or “participate in” (i.e. students) Critical Infrastructure (i.e. “facilitating distance learning or performing other essential functions”). Thus, Georgia Southwestern can continue distance learning and performing other essential functions, and GSW faculty, staff and students can conduct Necessary Travel for these purposes.
