The Chick-fil-A Express on Georgia Southwestern’s campus located inside the Storm Dome is back open for business as of Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020. The closure took place on Friday, Dec. 13 after GSW’s graduation ceremonies for renovations. Chick-fil-A requires all locations to undergo a "refresh" every few years to update each restaurant and make any needed repairs.
Visible updates consist of new flooring, a fresh coat of paint, the addition of high top tables and chairs, new wainscoting on the wall, an exterior sign added, and a lower partition in the dining area allowing for more visibility. Upgraded menu boards, a mural with GSW branding rich with history and school spirit, wall decor and grilled chicken nuggets are coming soon. Other improvements included new equipment, electrical and plumbing work. The parking lot was also resurfaced and restriped during the closure as part of a separate project.
The Chick-fil-A Express, currently operated by Aramark, is one of the more popular places on campus. Frequented by students, faculty, staff and the public alike, the Chick-fil-A Express serves many items from the regular restaurants. There are some small differences between the Express and a stand-alone restaurant such as a simplified menu. The GSW location doesn't accept gift cards or have mobile ordering, a drive-thru, catering pickup and delivery, or a playground.
Per Chick-fil-A’s website, licensing opportunities are available to licensed food service providers and self-operated food service providers in university and college campuses, airports, healthcare facilities, or business and industry venues.
