Georgia Southwestern State University strives to recognize its students for their excellence and achievement. In order to best acknowledge student accomplishments, GSW uses Merit Pages to announce and recognize students for their achievements. With Merit, GSW can construct a verified and public profile of a student’s educational and professional accomplishment called a Merit Page.

What is Merit?

Merit is an online recognition system through which GSW highlights student accomplishment.

Students receive recognition for a variety of achievements that include being named to the President’s List, earning a scholarship, joining an organization or studying abroad. When recognized, students receive “badges” through Merit. Each time a student has an achievement or an accomplishment, GSW will update that student’s Merit Page.

When students claim their Merit Pages, it creates an online profile that compiles a student’s achievements and accomplishments. When GSW adds an achievement to a student’s Merit Page, it builds a verified record of that student’s accomplishment, much like building a resume.

How does Merit work?

Preview Day BadgeDepartments, organizations, and other campus entities can provide the Office of University Relations with a brief description of what they would like to recognize students for and a list of the students they would like to recognize.

University Relations will then create personalized stories about these student accomplishments and award a badge, which will be published on each student’s Merit profile. Stories may also be sent to each student’s hometown newspaper for publication. The Athletics Department also creates achievements based on student-athlete accomplishment.

When students receive badges for achievement, they are notified through their GSW email accounts. Emails will come from studentachievements@gsw.edu, which is a legitimate Georgia Southwestern email address.

Students can choose to share their accomplishments with family and friends on their social media accounts. They also have the ability to opt out.

How will Merit benefit students?

What GSW adds to each student’s Merit Page is verified by the university. Essentially, GSW is building a resume centered on each student’s college career.

This is useful for potential employers, internships, and others to view since the accuracy of the achievements listed on each student’s Merit Page is confirmed by the university.

How can students claim their Merit Pages?

Students wishing to claim their Merit Page can go to the Georgia Southwestern State University Merit homepage at gsw.meritpages.com and enter their names in the search function. They will then be given instructions on how to claim their Merit Page and achievements.

Merit achievements are also linked within each email notification.

Who can be contacted with questions and concerns about Merit?

GSW’s Merit Pages are managed by the Office of University Relations. Students with questions about their Merit Pages should contact the director of University Relations at 229-931-2037 or by email at univrel@gsw.edu.

For additional information about Merit, visit meritpages.com.

*Though scholarship "achievements" are sent using Merit, they do NOT constitute official GSW scholarship notices.
