Student Email

GSW has set up an email account for every enrolled student. This address will serve as an official means for faculty and staff to contact students. Students are expected to check their official GSW email on a frequent and consistent basis and recognize that certain communication may be time-critical.

Please note: GSW policy is to keep student email accounts active up to one year. Your email account will be suspended one year after the starting date of the last semester you attended classes at GSW.

By using your email account, you agree to the GSW Email Policy.

To Verify your email address

  1. Log into RAIN (https://rain.gsw.edu) using the "Secured Login" option from the drop-down.
  2. Once you're logged in to RAIN, click "Personal Information", then "View E-mail Addresses".
  3. One of the email addresses should be "<user>@radar.gsw.edu". This is your student email address. The part before the '@' symbol is the username you need to log on and check your email.
  4. Your password must be created using the "Forgot password" link on the "CanesNet Single Sign-on" page.

PLEASE NOTE - Your CanesNet account is used to authenticate you to your email account.  If you have changed your CanesNet account password, you will have to use that password to log in to your student email.

To use your email account

  1. Go to http://mail.radar.gsw.edu/.
  2. Enter your username and password in the spaces provided and click "Sign in".
  3. Before you can log in to your email account, you must change your password in one of three ways:

To change your password

  1. Go to the CanesNet Single Sign-On page.
  2. Click the Change password link.
  3. Follow the prompts to change your password.

To forward email to another address

  1. Log into your email account.
  2. Click "Settings" at the top of the page, then click the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
  3. Click the "Add a forwarding address" button.
  4. Enter the email address you wish to forward mail to and click "Next".
  5. A verification email will be sent to the address you specified. That email will have instructions on how to complete the process.

NOTE: GSW does not offer support regarding messages that have been lost after they leave your official GSW email account. Forward mail at your own risk.

To remove a forward

  1. Log in to your email account.
  2. Click "Settings" at the top of the page, then click the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
  3. Select the radio button next to "Disable forwarding".
  4. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you're having trouble with your account, here are a few tips that may help you out.

  • In the "Username" field, make sure you input just your username - the part of your GSW email address before the '@' symbol.
  • Make sure you're trying to log in using the proper web interface at http://mail.radar.gsw.edu/ -- you can also get there from the GSW Main Page by selecting "Student Email Login" from the "Community Links" drop-down box.
  • Make sure cookies are turned on in your browser settings.
  • Try using your default password - the last 6 digits of your GSW ID#.

If you still have problems, feel free to email the System Administrator from an alternate email address, or call 229-931-2074 and provide your email address, name, and a description of the problem. DO NOT provide your password or GSW ID# over email.

Faculty/Staff Email

Request your new account by using the online request form. Before requesting the E-mail account read the E-mail Account Policies provided below.

Once you have read and agree with the above written policy, you can request an E-mail account with the online form provided. Once the form is received, you will need to allow up to 48 hours for the account to be created.

You will need to visit the Office of Information and Instructional Technology (OIIT) in Morgan Hall Room 105 to pick up your E-mail account information. Your information sheet will include your E-mail address and your initial password for your account. You will need to sign the form so it can be kept on file with the OIIT department.

Checking E-mail Remotely

If you need to check your mail from off campus, you may do so by using the Outlook Web App (or OWA) site at https://surge.gsw.edu/owa/ and loggging in using your CanesNet username and password.  Using this web interface, you can access all the mail in your Inbox, Sent Items, and Deleted Items folders.  The OWA stays in sync with your account on the server, so if you read or delete mail using OWA, it will be deleted or marked as read when you get back to your Outlook client on your office computer.

Size Limit Warnings and Account Limit Messages

When you are approaching the maximum size limit for your email account, you will recieve a warning through your client (either Outlook or the OWA).  Once you hit your limit, you will not be able to send or receive mail until you have removed some mail from the server.  The easiest way to do this is to delete messages that are taking up too much space, or move them to your Archive Folders (which is only visible through the Outlook client on your office computer).  Your Outlook client is set up to automatically move mail six months old or older to your Archive Folder.
