AMERICUS (June 8, 2016) – Two Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) staff members, Sandra Fowler and Jill Hohnecker, recently graduated from the Georgia Academy for Economic Development. Fowler, who is the director of career services, and Hohnecker, who serves as residence life coordinator, were two of 35 graduates from the 16 county region of southwest Georgia class which included public servants, business leaders, educators and social service providers.
The 2016 Region 8 Academy training program was held over a four-month period. Graduates were trained in economic and community development, business recruitment and retention, tourism product development, downtown development, planning and tools for community success.
Created in 1993, the Academy bring together economic development professionals and resources to provide this training in all twelve service delivery regions in Georgia. Since its organization, the Academy has provided training for thousands of professional and non-professional economic developers around the state.

This served as local real estate agent Mark Pace’s last meeting as chairman. Will Peterson, assistant vice president of Human Resources for Phoebe Putney Health System, was voted the new chair and will serve a two-year term.
