AMERICUS (Sept. 4, 2015) – Lauren DiPaula, Ph.D., associate professor of English, has been awarded a $1,000 mini-grant for the fiscal year 2015-16 from the University System of Georgia (USG) Office of Faculty Development. AMERICUS, GA (Aug. 25, 2015)— After serving the Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce for six years, Angela Smith has accepted a position at Georgia Southwestern State University as the executive assistant to the President. Move-In Day set for Aug. 15, classes begin Aug. 19

AMERICUS, GA (Aug. 14, 2015)—This time Saturday, approximately 880 college students – with 289 of those being new freshmen – will be settling in to their homes for the next 10 months on campus as Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) hosts the 2015 edition of “Move-In Day.” Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 19, marking the official beginning of the fall semester. And with a new year comes new energy and often times new academic programs and construction.

Beginning Fall 2015, Georgia Southwestern State University will have a new coffee shop in the Marshall Student Center. What was formerly known as "Java City" will now be called "Higher Grounds Cafe," and it will "proudly serve Starbucks coffee." The new coffee offering was based on a student brand survey conducted last year.

AMERICUS (July 24, 2015) – Georgia Southwestern State University has recently ranked 11th on the 50 Most Affordable Small Colleges for an HR Degree 2015 list assembled by humanresourcesmba.net. Georgia Southwestern was one of only two Georgia colleges that made the list, ranking ahead of Brenau University.

AMERICUS (July 21, 2015) – The Chattahoochee-Flint RESA Educational Technology Center (ETC) along with the Georgia Southwestern Department of Theater, Communication and Media Arts (TCMA) produced the 11th annual Georgia Movie Academy (GMA) awards at the Rylander Theater earlier this year. Military caregiver program will now provide support in nine U.S. cities 

AMERICUS (July 13, 2015)—The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving’s (RCI) Operation Family Caregiver (OFC) will pilot a new volunteer program thanks to funding from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation and a new partnership with Blue Star Families, the largest chapter-based, volunteer, military family engagement organization in the nation. Training will commence for OFC coaches in fall 2015, with service to military families, done both in person and via SKYPE, beginning as early as December.
