AMERICUS (May 29, 2015)—Paula Bryant, senior lecturer in the Georgia Southwestern State University School of Nursing, is the recipient of the inaugural William B. King Faculty Scholar Award for nursing faculty. The award comes with a $9,000 stipend distributed evenly over three years.

AMERICUS (April 21, 2015) — Sixty-six years ago Barbara Byrd came to Americus from Atlanta to enroll in what is now Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW). She and her husband of 64 years, Earl Gammage, have been very active in the community as well as with GSW and South Georgia Technical College (SGTC). They made their eighth significant contribution to this area’s “Two Great Choices – One Great Community” campaign recently.

PLAINS, Ga. (April 21, 2015)--From a very early age, President Jimmy Carter held an appreciation for the natural world that surrounded him on his father’s 360-acre farm. Growing up without electricity, President Carter would have witnessed many wonderful and crystal clear views of the night sky. To celebrate National Park Week as well as participate in the National Park Service’s Centennial “Find Your Park” campaign, we are excited to host our first ever astronomy event at the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm.

AMERICUS (April 16, 2015)—For the second consecutive year, Georgia Southwestern State University collaborated with Sumter County Schools to address college readiness. Georgia Southwestern today awarded $3,000 in scholarship money to Blake St. John, Thomas Edge and Jessica Marie Clayton - all juniors at Americus-Sumter High School’s South Campus – for their entries in the College Readiness Essay Competition. The writing theme this year was “How Does College Education Make You a Better Citizen.” Scholarship funds will only be awarded if students attend Georgia Southwestern.
