The Education Specialist (Ed.S.) program at Georgia Southwestern is now offered 100% online, making it more accessible than ever for educators balancing demanding careers and family responsibilities. Designed to fit into your busy schedule, this flexible program can be completed in just 13 months, allowing you to advance your education without putting your life on hold.

Graduates of the Teacher Leadership program emerge as dynamic classroom teachers and influential teacher leaders. They are equipped to design and lead job-embedded professional learning; foster collaborative work environments; align curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices; and model exemplary teaching strategies. Additionally, they are prepared to mentor and coach fellow educators, use data to drive decisions, apply research findings to improve student outcomes, and engage stakeholders in meaningful, positive change.

Graduate Admissions

Admission Requirements

Students wishing to apply to the College of Education graduate program at Georgia Southwestern State University must submit a completed admissions packet. Incomplete packets may not be reviewed for admissions. The complete admissions packet is comprised of the following:

  1. Graduate application for admission with $25.00 nonrefundable application fee
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended* with a minimum of 3.0 grade point average
    • Ed.S. applicants need only show graduate level coursework
    • *Students who have graduated from Georgia Southwestern do not need to submit a GSW transcript or other transcripts previously received by Southwestern prior to college graduation. Students are encouraged to "Check Your Admissions Status" for transcripts needed.
  3. Two Administrative Recommendation Forms, one from a Supervising Principal and one from another school administrator, Assistant Principal, Department Chair, Lead Teacher.
  4. Commitment Letter
  5. Copy of Professional Teaching Certificate
  6. Immunization form (before enrollment)
  7. Documentation of Lawful Presence (before enrollment, if applying for in-state tuition)

Required GPA

A minimum of 3.0 grade point average of all previous graduate coursework is required.

Ed.S. applicants need only show graduate level coursework

Deadlines

Priority deadline is May 15, however the Ed.S. program accepts students into the Summer semester. Deadline for all materials is June 14.

TEACH Grant

The TEACH Grant Program provides grants up to $4,000 a year to graduate students in the process of completing or planning to complete a degree or courses necessary to begin a career in teaching.
