College of Business & Computing Scholarships

The following scholarships are offered through the College of Business & Computing. All awards are based on fund availability and criteria mentioned within each scholarship. The College of Business & Computing scholarship application must be completed by the March 24th Deadline to qualify for these funds. Recommendations for these scholarships are made by the faculty of the College of Business & Computing and awarded by the Dean upon the recommendation of the scholarship committee. 

 

Accounting Scholarship
This scholarship was established by GSW accounting alumni and faculty. This scholarship is awarded to Accounting students with a minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum of 15 hours upper division business classes.

Griffin Bell Scholarship
Criteria: Incoming, Transfer, or a Continuing GSW student athlete with a 3.0+ GPA, pursing a major in Business Administration with emphasis on Professional Golf Management, recruited to play on Golf Team and demonstrates financial need

Mrs. Cathy P. Mooney ’75 Memorial Scholarship Endowment
This scholarship was created by Mr. Richard G. Mooney III ’74 and his family, for the purpose of providing scholarships in the College of Business and Computing. Mr. Mooney created this scholarship award as a lasting tribute to his beloved wife of 44 years, Mrs. Cathy P. Mooney. This scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate business students with a 2.5 GPA with a preference given to Southwest Georgia residents. This scholarship is renewable as long as the student remains in good standing.

Mario Cantu Memorial Book Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Mario Cantu to help students purchase books. Students must be enrolled at GSW, have a 2.5+ GPA, demonstrate financial need based on federal guidelines. Preference given to Hispanic students.

Human Resource Management Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Liz Wilson, former Dean of the College of Business and Computing, representing Human Resource Management alumni. A committee of HR Professionals will select the awardee on behalf of the HR Alumni. This scholarship is awarded to Human Resource Management students with a minimum 2.75 GPA and a minimum of 18 hours upper division business classes.

James Deriso Scholarship
This memorial endowment was established by the family of James G. Deriso. Mr. Deriso, father of Mrs. Betty Pope, a former Chair-person of Georgia Southwestern Foundation’s Board of Trustees, was a successful businessman in Sumter County. This scholarship is awarded to junior or senior students accepted into the College of Business and Computing with a 3.0 GPA and no more than one grade of “C” in upper division courses. Consideration is given to participation and leadership in campus activities and extra-curricular activities.

Bettie Tolson Rhyne Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Claude L. Rhyne in memory of his wife, Bettie Tolson Rhyne. This scholarship will be awarded to a master’s program student pursuing a science or mathematics degree at GSW.

Doug and Yolanda A. Moses’ Accounting and Computer Science Scholarship Endowment 
This scholarship was created by Doug and Yolanda Moses as a lasting tribute to the impact the University has had on their lives and as a reflection of their long-standing support of Georgia Southwestern State University. This scholarship will be awarded to worthy, enrolled undergraduate students at GSW in the College of Business and Computing. This scholarship will be awarded to Accounting and Computer Science undergraduate majors, preference given to Georgia residents from Ocilla and Sylvester, students must have a 3.0 GPA, and the scholarship is renewable as long as the student remains in good standing and a 3.0 is maintained.

Jeff Singley Scholarship
Mrs. Singley established this scholarship in memory of her husband, Jeff Singley, who suddenly passed away at age 46, while their two sons, Kyle and Ryan were pursuing degrees at Georgia Southwestern State University. This scholarship shall be used for a student who are enrolled as a business or pre-business as a Sophomore or greater status, a GPA of 3.5 and works at least a part-time job. Preference will be given to students who have lost a parent.

Jim and Doris Tanquary Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mr. Jim Tanquary. This scholarship is given to students majoring in business degrees, preference given to undeserved demographic/first generation students, students with sophomore or higher status (30 credit hours), and preference given to students with demonstrated financial need, and must have at least a 2.25 GPA.

Lee Belford Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Richard A. Belford and Martha G. Belford and in honor of William Lee Belford. This scholarship shall be used for a student who is an incoming freshman, or a current student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at Georgia Southwestern State University in the College of Business and Computing with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Consideration will be given to student athletes enrolled in the College of Business and Computing who meet the stated criteria. Preference will be given (although not limited to) students who graduated from High School from Chatham, Effingham, Bulloch, Bryan or Liberty counties in Georgia.

Moore Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mr. Larry W. Moore, a 1973 graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University. This scholarship supports fulltime students entering their sophomore year pursuing a degree in business with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to students who are not receiving any other scholarships, including HOPE. 

Rotary/E.H. Kinnebrew, Sr. Scholarship
Established by the Americus Rotary Club for Business Students in Free Enterprise/Enactus, this scholarship honors the memory of a lifelong member of the late E.H. Kinnebrew, Sr., whose successful business in Americus, Georgia which is continuing to flourish as a product of the American free enterprise system.

Rotary/Willis Shiver Scholarship
Established by the Americus Rotary Club for Business Students in Free Enterprise/Enactus, this scholarship honors the memory of a lifelong member, J. Willis Shiver, who started a successful business in Americus, Georgia which is continuing to flourish as a product of the American free enterprise system.

Wheeler/Parker Scholarship
The Wheeler/Parker Scholarship was established by Jean and Wes Wheeler as an endowment to honor the Parker and Wheeler families. The criteria gives consideration to students who have financial need and meet admission standards. This scholarship will be shared by the College of Business and Computing, the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Music department.
