Information Technology

Hometown: Ellaville, Georgia

Major: Recent Information Technology graduate

Graduated: Spring 2024

Why did you choose to attend GSW?
I chose to attend GSW because it was close to home and an affordable option for me.

Please list your University highlights, achievements, leadership and awards.

  • Dean's List, 5 semesters
  • President's List, 1 semester
  • Upsilon Pi Epsilon, 2 years; Inductor (Fall 2023)

Are you currently receiving any GSW scholarships? If so, which one(s)?
I have received the Dr. Harold E. Holloway Scholarship for the past 2 years.

Why did you choose your major, or what do you love about your major program at GSW?
I chose my major because in high school, I worked for the technology team at Schley County fixing laptops, printers and projectors. I had lots of fun fixing technical issues and have chosen to make a career out of it.

What is a cause you’re passionate about?
I am passionate about animal conservation particularly reptiles. I own a crested gecko and have researched many different species and their natural habitats.

Who is your favorite professor or staff member and why?
My favorite professor is Dr. Jonathan Hobbs. He is a great professor and is always willing to work with students and break down any concepts to make sure they understand. He is supportive of all the students in the computing and information technology programs and makes sure we are all performing at our best.

What have your learned (or are learning) that has made the biggest difference for you?
Learning database construction and web design has helped me tremendously at my job and for my capstone project. I have created a webpage for my job in order for employees to upload and download any work-related documents. My capstone project was heavily database and website involved, so learning both ahead of time has made the process much smoother.

What has been your greatest challenge?
I struggle with social anxiety, so it has been challenging for me to make friends or do required class presentations but through exposure in college I am slowly becoming more confident.

What is your favorite class and why?
My favorite class has been Advanced Web Design. It was a fun class. Our first assignment was to redesign a local business’s webpage to make it better, and that was quite the challenge. I also got to learn JavaScript and node.js, which have been very useful to me so far.

What is your favorite album? Why?
My favorite album right now is Super Bloom by Silent Planet. I recently went to a show of theirs because I am friends with the opening band, and they played this album. It absolutely blew me away with how good it is.
