Biology

Hometown: Colquitt, Georgia

Major: Senior Biology major

Anticipated graduation date: December 2020

Why did you choose to attend GSW?
I chose to attend GSW because I appreciated the size of the school as well as the rigorous biology department. Because GSW is a relatively small school, teachers are able to give more time and attention to each student, which has greatly supplemented my education and experience. Before I attended GSW, I heard many health professionals speak highly of the biology department here, and I wanted to be in a reputable program that challenged me.

University involvement, achievements, awards:

  • Honors Program, 3.5 years
  • Hugh D. Carter, Jr. Biology Scholarship, 1 year
  • Betty and Claude L. Rhyne, Jr. Scholarship, 1 year
  • Chemistry Club Secretary, 1 year (2019-2020)
  • Dean’s List, 2 semesters
  • Academic Achievement List, 2 semesters
  • Zell Miller Scholarship, 3.5 years
  • President’s List, 2 semesters
  • Presidential Honors Scholarship, 2 years
  • Teaching Assistant, Biology Department, 1 semester

What is your plan after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to attend physician assistant school.

Why did you choose your major?
I chose my major because I love learning about how living things function and picking apart all the pieces that create that function.

What would people be surprised to know about you?
I have two different colored eyes—one blue and one green. What advice do you have for incoming students? Your teachers always want you to succeed, so do not be afraid to reach out to them.

What is your favorite memory or experience you’ve had at GSW?
My favorite memory would probably be the camping trips the biology department took while I was in Natural History of Vertebrates.

What is your favorite series to binge watch? Why?
My favorite series to binge watch is Gossip Girl because it brings a little excitement to my life.
