The Career Services Office of Georgia Southwestern State University is committed to providing progressive, timely, and comprehensive career services of the highest quality to our students and alumni. Career Services is dedicated to promoting optimal career development to all students and seeks to effectively provide meaningful work experiences in preparation for a global job market.
To accomplish this we:
We encourage you to spend time talking with your student about assessing their skills, abilities, values, and interests, and how to apply these ideas to their career development. Help them to plan their summers to include summer jobs or internships relating to their filed of interest. Encourage them to take an active role in their career planning and in their future.
Where is Career Services and what are the hours?
Career Services is located in the Student Success Center on the third floor in room 3400. The Student Success Center is Building #7 on our linked interactive campus map here. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
How do students find out about Career Services?

What role can I play as a parent in my child's career development process?
The most important thing you can do as a parent is support your student's career exploration and career choices. Encourage your student to take advantage of all GSW has to offer. Listen, encourage and provide moral support and you will help your student to navigate the career planning process, which can be time-consuming, stressful, and occasionally difficult. The result will be a smooth transition from GSW into the next level of the career process.
When can/should my student begin using the services you offer?
As early in the college experience as possible! Freshman and sophomores benefit immensely as they have more time to explore all options, to plan for and participate in informational interviewing, internships, and career fairs as well as to identify and develop skills.
What happens to GSW students after graduation?
GSW students succeed in a variety of career fields after graduation. Approximately 85% find employment in their chosen field of study. There is always a number of students who are unavailable for employment, who have not yet found full-time employment, or whom we are unable to follow up with.
