History of

Glass at GSW

Blowing glass really began to take shape on campus in the '70s when Ralph Harvey brought it to light. The first glass blowing studio was created in Crawford Wheatley Hall, and over the next few decades, glass would evolve on campus. Georgia Southwestern now houses the only public glass blowing program in the state of Georgia and is a proud supporter of the Americus Hot Glass Beer Festival held annually which showcases glass artists across the state including some of our own students.

Fishing with Rick and Ralph, 1980's

"Fishin' with Rick and Ralph" emphasized the qualities of hot glass and humor with spontaneous renderings of fish, lures, a flashlight and even hand blown bottles of Miller beer to enjoy after a long day on the water.
