Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts in Music program provides students a liberal arts degree with a concentration in music. With a strong humanities-oriented foundation, the degree allows students to explore various academic and professional interests outside of music and provides considerable flexibility in selecting electives in a variety of disciplines, languages, and a minor.

Program Details

The music program stresses individual attention in presenting the discipline of music with small class sizes in an intimate setting. Students receive the personalized attention they deserve to continually improve their skillset. Music students can expect:

  • Private instruction in various instruments including brass, woodwinds, percussion, guitar, piano, and voice for all music students by our highly skilled faculty
  • Experience in performing in various campus productions including concert and jazz bands
  • An interdisciplinary education with the ability to choose various certificates and minors across campus to fullfill elective credit hours

GSW students give frequent music performances during the year that range from musical theatre productions, madrigal dinners, cabaret, choirs, concert and jazz bands. The Jackson Performance Hall also hosts the Chamber Concert series showcasing musical talent from across the nation for students, faculty, staff, and community members to attend. 

Community Events

The Georgia Southwestern Concert Choir and Concert Band are both open to all current students regardless of major with no auditions necessary. Students have the opportunity to join and earn course credits that fit into most curriculum regardless of major. 

The music faculty are particularly special to me, and each had their own role in contributing to my academic and musical growth. Their knowledge and skill are unmatched; their expertise is diverse. Moreover, their contacts are varied and opened doors for me to experiment, work, and grow as a musician and as an academic.
