The Department of History and Political Science is dedicated to cultivating one-to-one mentoring relationships and to preparing students for life after GSW. Small group dynamics characterize our classes allowing students to make personal connections with their professors, establish networks in the local community, and build friendships with one another.
The department is intent on helping students to develop analytical and critical thinking skills; to conduct discipline specific research; and to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms. We understand the importance of and are committed to providing high-quality academic advising. With numerous free electives, students can also tailor their individual programs to fit a wide variety of personal career goals.
Recent graduates of the various programs in History and Political Science have found employment with the National Park Service, as legislative assistants for state governments, working in communications for businesses and public institutions, in teaching and coaching positions in middle and high schools, libraries, law firms, and the ministry. Our majors and minors have also entered graduate programs in Public History, Instructional Technology, Library Science, Public Administration, MBA programs, and Law Schools.

With a variety of options, students have the ability to cater their education by selecting a minor or certificate program that aligns with future goals.
I enjoy the small teacher to student ratio. I attended a high school with a small student to teacher ratio, as well, which made the transition to the college course load easier.
