eCore at GSW

eCore is a cooperative arrangement among SACSCOC-accredited institutions of the University System of Georgia (USG) to offer online general education courses. eCore courses are taught by instructors from USG institutions and are transferable within the USG, as well as to most regionally accredited schools. eCore allows students the opportunity to complete their first two years of their collegiate careers in an online environment.

eCore is a convenient and adaptable option for either getting started in college or for resuming college after a break or pause. The core curriculum primarily consists of courses required during the first two years of college for a given degree. Not all core curriculum classes are available via eCore; you may need to take some core classes in a traditional classroom setting.

Student support, including enrollment counseling, bookstore, library services, tutoring, test proctoring and disability services are coordinated through the eCore Administration.

eCore courses require one or two proctored examinations to verify student identity and maintain academic rigor. The cost of proctored experiences are not included in eCore tuition. See eCore Testing for more information.

Before you can register for an eCore course, you must be admitted to a USG eCore Institution. If you are not already admitted to one of these institutions, your first step is to apply for admission to an eCore affiliate institution.

All students are required to complete the Introduction Quiz before registering for an eCore course. You must know your campus student ID number as well as your campus email address to complete the quiz.

You will receive an email from your campus eCore liaison within 48 hours of completing the Introduction Quiz confirming your completion. This email will include instructions on how to register for an eCore class.

Once you have completed the quiz and received the email confirmation, you are free to register for eCore courses through RAIN during the registration period.

Who teaches eCore?

Highly qualified faculty members from universities and colleges throughout the University System of Georgia are nominated by their respective Chief Academic Officers to teach eCore classes. The most qualified instructors from this nomination pool are then trained in online teaching and course management. Current eCore faculty members include a diverse group of talented USG academics, including several emeritus professors and current academic department chairs as well as many authors of both discipline-related and pedagogical research. These faculty members are committed to offering superior online instruction and to improving access to higher education in Georgia and throughout the world.

Find out how you can begin teaching eCore courses by visiting the USG eCore Faculty Application web page.
