Writing Center

Writing Center

The GSW Writing Center is staffed by undergraduate writing consultants who enjoy writing and reading, and come from majors such as English, History, Political Science, and Accounting. Consultants work with student writers on their writing projects at all stages of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading. A consultation can be in-person in the Writing Center or through the Writing Center's web platform. An appointment can be made for a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of 1 hour.

Consultants work with other students by using strategies such as asking questions, reading the draft aloud, taking notes, outlining and reverse outlining, and brainstorming to improve assignments. You will discuss what you would like to work on and assess the effectiveness of your writing. The consultations are focused on your unique authorship and ideas, and the consultants work to guide you through the progression of your assignment.

Appointments

Students must have an appointment to meet with a writing consultant at the Writing Center. Please complete the following steps to make an appointment:

  • Visit the Writing Center Appointment page.
  • Once you have made an account (or already have one), log into the system to make your appointment.
  • Select a time slot with a consultant by clicking on one of the time options.
  • You can switch between in-person and online schedules by using the drop-down menu at the top of the WC online appointment page.
  • Once you've selected an available time slot, fill out all required information and press "Create Appointment" at the bottom.
  • When the appointment has been created, the box you selected will turn gold. To modify or cancel an appointment you have made, click on the gold box and scroll to the bottom of the appointment forms. You will find the options to "Cancel Appointment" and "Edit Appointment." If you edit appointment, be sure to press "Save Changes" at the bottom of the form.

Additional Information

Please arrive on time for your appointment. There is a 5-10 minute window before your appointment will be marked as missed by your consultant. You will receive an email notification if this occurs. If you miss three appointments, your account will be locked, and you must contact the Writing Center to correct this.

The Writing Center also accepts walk-ins. Upon arrival, you will be asked to make an account and an appointment if you do not have one, and then the consultation can begin.
