For centuries, fire has brought people together, and since the 1960s Georgia Southwestern has continued to embrace the craftsmanship. GSW's glass program allows opportunities for coming together with the community with local partnerships. GSW also continues to remain the only public university in the state of Georgia with a glass blowing program.

Historic Campus

GSW has been recognized by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation for preserving history throughout campus for Excellence in Rehabilitation (2022) of Canes Central.

GSW also received Georgia Peach Awards (2022) for the renovations of Canes Central and Florrie Chappell Gymnasium. These buildings were recognized for optimizing energy performance, using Georgia-based materials and furnishings, improve the environmental quality, protect the State’s natural resources, and reduce the burden on the State’s water supply.
