I. Interim Presidentthumb Admin Patterson

Dr. Charles E. Patterson, 229-928-1360

Dr. Patterson assumed the role of Interim President January of 2015 and is responsible for the University’s strategic direction and overall administration.  Prior to coming to Georgia Southwestern State University, he served as the Vice President for Research & Economic Development, Dean of the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies and Chairman of the Georgia Southern University Research and Service Foundation, Inc.  Dr. Patterson graduated magna cum laude from Mississippi State University with a B.S. degree in biochemistry and earned his Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.  He also conducted postdoctoral research at UT Southwestern Medical Center.  Dr. Patterson served several administrative roles at Baylor University prior, where he served as an instructor in the Honor’s College, as well as roles in establishing critical infrastructures to support research and scholarly pursuits within the Office of the Vice Provost for Research.


II. Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty

Dr. Brian U. Adler, 229-928-1361

Dr. Adler took office as Georgia Southwestern's VPAA June 1, 2008. He is responsible for oversight of the academic programs and policies of the University. In that regard, Adler serves as the chief academic, and the deans of each individual school report directly to his office. Adler served as the dean of the Graduate School at Valdosta State University from 2005 until the present. Prior, he served as administrative head of VSU's Philosophy and Religious Studies Department (Spring and Summer 2004) and director of the Honors Program. A position he held from 1994 to 2004. Adler earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of South Carolina in 1978, a Master of Arts in English from the University of Georgia in 1984 and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Tennessee in 1988.


III. Vice President for Business & Finance

W. Cody King, 229-931-2066

Mr. King came to Georgia Southwestern in 1996 as director of Accounting Services before serving as comptroller from 2000-2007. He filled the role of Vice President in August of 2007. In addition to his work in the office of Business and Finance, King taught courses in managerial, cost and tax accounting. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Georgia Southwestern College and his master's degree in business administration from Albany State University.


IV. Vice President for Student Affairs

Dr. Samuel T. Miller, 229-928-1387

Dr. Miller came to GSW June 2000. Responsible for the general welfare of students, as well as providing leadership for various departments that provide critical services to students and other constituencies. Prior to coming to GSW, other professional experience was gained at Mississippi State, Penn State, and Temple universities. Education includes the following degrees: Ph. D. in Student Development in Higher Education M. Ed. in Student Development in Higher Education B.A. in Psychology. Hobbies/interests include tennis and racquetball.

V. Vice President of Enrollment Management

Dr. Gaye S. Hayes, 229-928-1273

Gaye Hayes came to GSW in 1991 to work in the Division of Student Affairs. Hayes was appointed to the lead role in Admissions in 2003. She was named the University's first Vice President of Enrollment Management in March 2009 which governs over the Office of Admissions and Registrar's Office. Hayes earned a Bachelor of Science in political science from GSW, a master's degree in college student personnel from the University of Georgia and Ph.D. from Georgia State University in educational policy studies.


VI. Executive Director, GSW Foundation

Reda K. Rowell, 229-931-2014

Rowell joined the Foundation and GSW in December of 2012 from Clayton State University where she was director of Development and Alumni Affairs since 2001. She serves as the lead fundraiser for the University and manager of the GSW Foundation. Rowell is an alumna of Clayton State where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in management and a Master of Arts in history.


VII. Athletic DirectorMike Leeder

Mike Leeder, 229-931-2230

Leeder came to Georgia Southwestern in 2003 as assistant head basketball coach for the men's team and has been head coach for the last eight years. Having just begun his ninth year as head coach, Leeder was named athletic director in November 2014. He served as interim director from June to November. Leeder was named the Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year for the 2010-2011 season. Previously, Leeder served as head men’s basketball coach at Longwood University (1999-2003). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Florida State University, and a Master of Science degree in education from Nova Southeastern University.


VIII. University Relations Director

Stephen E. Snyder, 229-931-2037

Snyder joined the Georgia Southwestern staff in 2007 as a development officer before moving to his current role as University Relations Director. He is responsible for University marketing, public relations and the Web site. Snyder earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia Southwestern.
