Waldrop to serve as A&S interim dean
AMERICUS--Dr.
Jeffrey Waldrop, professor of English and co-director of the University
Honors
Program, has agreed to serve as the interim dean of the College of Arts and
Sciences, effective Feb. 1, 2010. He will fill the position vacated by Dr. David
Garrison who was hired as the new vice president of Academic Affairs at Lagrange
College.
Waldrop has been at Georgia Southwestern State University for fifteen years, during which time he has served as chair of the English Department, faculty intern for the Office of Academic Affairs, chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and coordinator for the Studies Abroad Program, among other duties.
"Dr.
Waldrop’s extensive experience as both an administrator and faculty member will
be essential during this transitional period, and I look forward to working with
him in this role," said Dr. Brian Adler, vice president of Academic Affairs.
The decision
to appoint Waldrop was made after consultation with the Arts and Sciences
Council of Chairs, along with input from the faculty of the College of Arts and
Sciences.
The search
process for a permanent dean will begin early in 2010. Dr. Lettie Watford, dean
of the School of Education, has been appointed the chair of the search
committee.
