GSW Foundation names Moses, Waldrop
trustees, re-elects three others
AMERICUS —The Georgia Southwestern Foundation Board of Trustees elected two new members and re-elected three current members to the 39 member group at its spring full board meeting. Nominated and elected by their peers, trustees provide external oversight to the Foundation’s operations.
Douglas A. "Doug" Moses of McDonough and M. Jeffrey "Jeff" Waldrop, Ph.D., of Americus are the newest members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Moses' and Waldrop's three-year terms are effective immediately.
Moses is a partner with Mauldin and Jenkins Certified Public Accountants, LLC. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting at Georgia Southwestern and an MBA in accounting from Georgia Southern University. Moses' professional affiliations are many. He is the treasurer and a member of the GSW Alumni Association, a member of the Georgia Society of CPA's, the American Institute of CPA's, the Government Finance Officers Association, the Georgia Government Finance Officers Association, the National Association of Black Accountants and the National Association of Government Accountants. Moses' wife, Yolanda, holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from GSW and a Master of Science in software systems from Mercer University. They have two daughters, Camille and Gabrielle.
Waldrop is a professor of English at Georgia Southwestern, a position he has been in since 1994. Waldrop is also the interim dean of the GSW College of Arts and Sciences and the co-director of the Honors Program. He is an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church, a youth mentor through Sumter County Middle School and a Boy Scout and merit badge leader. Waldrop is also a former director of the Sumter Historic Trust. His wife, Katherine, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University. They have two children, Jeffrey and Sophia.
Trustees accepting additional three-year terms are Jay Cliett, Ph.D., retired professor of mathematics at GSW; Rick Whaley, president and CEO of Citizens Bank of Americus; and Barry Blount, executive vice president of PeoplesSouth Bank.
Blount is also the new chairman of the Board of Trustees, replacing Macon attorney, Rudolph Patterson. Blount will serve a two-year term as chairman.
The Foundation provides funds for Georgia Southwestern and manages assets and gift accounts for the University. The Foundation’s purpose is to promote in various ways the cause of higher education in the state of Georgia, with particular emphasis on the development of Georgia Southwestern State University.
