Plains resident is GSW outstanding scholar
AMERICUS—During Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) Honors Convocation Wednesday night, President Kendall A. Blanchard honored Plains native Jennifer Nicole Johnson with the University’s highest academic honor, the 2010 Outstanding Scholar Award.
The recipient of this award represents Georgia Southwestern during the University System of Georgia’s (USG) annual Academic Recognition Day in the Georgia General Assembly. Johnson was one of only 34 students in the USG honored on that day.
“Jennifer is an exceptional student,” said Janet Wills, Johnson’s advisor and assistant professor of nursing. “She quietly goes about being both competent and compassionate. Any hospital would be very fortunate to have her as a nurse on its staff.”
The Outstanding Scholar Award represents superb scholastic achievement. To be considered for this award, the student must have a near-perfect grade point average (GPA) and be a senior. Johnson has a 3.91 GPA.
A native of nearby Plains, Johnson will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Johnson is one of approximately 40 students who will graduate with a degree in nursing next month.
