Isaacs edits Spring 2010 issue of JTWS
AMERICUS—Harold Isaacs, Ph.D., professor emeritus of history at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW), has edited “Celebrating Change, Defining the Future: Social Justice, Democracy and Cultural Renewal,” the Spring 2010 issue (Volume XXV11, No. 1) of the “Journal of Third World Studies” (JTWS). The Journal is published by the Association of Third World Studies (ATWS).
The 376-page volume, the 53rd issue of JTWS edited by Isaacs, contains selected papers presented at the 27th annual meeting of ATWS in Elmina, Cape Coast, Ghana Nov. 21-24, 2009. This was the first conference held by ATWS in Africa.
Contents of the Journal include peer-reviewed articles, book reviews and book review essays authored by scholars from the U.S., Ghana, Iran, Kenya, Nigeria and India. Among the articles are “Diasporas, Mobility and the Social Imaginary: Getting Ahead in West Africa,” by Harvard University historian Emmanuel K. Akyeampong and “Toward a Reclassification of Praetorian Rulers: Lessons from the Pakistani Experience,” by Chaitram Singh of Berry College.
JTWS has a worldwide readership of scholars, practitioners in the area of Third World development, U.S. and foreign government officials, and employees of non-governmental organizations. Hardcopies are sent to 51 countries and the publication is available on the Internet.
The next issue of JTWS, Fall 2010, will focus on “Third World Problems and Issues in Historical Perspective,” the theme of the 2009-2010 GSW Third World in Perspective seminar Series.
