Huffman is GSW Teacher of the Year
AMERICUS—Charles Huffman, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology, received the Teacher of the Year Award at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) Saturday, Dec. 12 at the graduation breakfast.
"Dr. Huffman is ranked highly by his students and by his colleagues in terms of his teaching, which has been called dynamic, engaging, and effective,” said Brian Adler, Ph.D., Vice President of Academic Affairs. “But in order to be a good teacher on the university level, one must be an active scholar, which Dr. Huffman clearly is.
“He has more than 15 publications to his credit and currently has a manuscript in progress entitled 'The Reminiscence Bump in Retired U.S. Military Veterans.' He collaborates frequently with his students in undergraduate research and serves as a worthy exemplar for our faculty in general," Adler added.
Initiated in 1998, the award is sponsored by the GSW National Alumni Association and presented during the fall commencement activities to a faculty member and is based on service during the previous academic year. The recipient is nominated and selected by peers, and criteria for selection include excellence in teaching and other categories used for consideration in granting promotion and tenure.
Huffman received a Bachelor of Science from Buena Vista College, a Master of Science from Emporia State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi.
