Garrison accepts post as Lagrange College VPAA
LAGRANGE—Lagrange College President Dan McAlexander yesterday announced that Dr. David Garrison was Lagrange’s new Vice President of Academic Affairs. Garrison served as Dean of Georgia Southwestern State University’s College of Arts and Sciences since August 2006. His new position begins Feb. 1.
“As I told David when he first notified me that he was considering the position, I did not want to see him leave Georgia Southwestern,” said GSW President Dr. Kendall Blanchard. “He has been a great colleague. However, I understand his desire to explore new options and move to higher levels of authority and wish him well in his role as chief academic officer at Lagrange.”
"Dr. Garrison provided able and stable leadership to the College of Arts and Sciences at a crucial time in its development,” said Dr. Brian Adler, GSW Vice President of Academic Affairs. “The College looks forward to maintaining the momentum and growth established under Dr. Garrison as we search for a suitable replacement."
Under Garrison’s leadership the GSW College of Arts and Sciences created a University Writing Center and began developing what would be Southwestern’s first master’s degree in Arts and Sciences, a Master of Arts in Critical Literacy.
Prior to his tenure at Georgia Southwestern, Garrison helped to lead the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. He also served as professor and head of the Department of English at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, and he served as a faculty member and department head at Spalding University in Louisville, Ky.
