By Stephen SnyderGSW art students invited to work on Chihuly ExhibitAMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern State University art students recently had the opportunity to help construct a unique art exhibit. Kelly Robertson, whose GSW studies are concentrated in glassblowing, participated in an exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens known as “Chihuly in the Garden,” from designer Dale Chihuly. Chihuly is well known for his large architectural installations, and his most celebrated installations include Chihuly Over Venice (1995-96) and Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem, 2000. Along with Robertson, GSW glass blowing students Micah Simpson and Jeremy Alford also worked on the Chihuly installation. To construct an installation, a group of artists take several individually blown pieces of glass and puts them together to create one piece. Once an installation is complete, lights are placed in it so as to display the variety of colors that have been used to create it. Chihuly’s expertise is the reason this event was so special, Robertson said. “It’s a unique opportunity to work with one of the world’s finest,” he added. ### | |
