WELCOME TO THE PSYCHOLOGY/SOCIOLOGY DEPARTMENT!

The Department of Psychology and Sociology offers coursework and laboratory experience in the behavioral sciences. Its curricula are designed to prepare students for graduate work in psychology and sociology, and to provide students with skills and training for employment in various kinds of social service occupations. A balanced offering of lecture, laboratory, and field experience provides the student with a basic understanding of those variables affecting individual behavior as well as the behavior of groups.

The Psychology major offers coursework and laboratory experience in the behavioral and cognitive sciences. Its curricula are designed to prepare students for graduate work in psychology and training for employment in various kinds of social service occupations. Example careers include counseling, school psychology, and social work.

The Sociology major has a wide variety of courses to help prepare students to analyze and understand the interactions and social institutions that shape our culture and influence behavior. Incorporating courses offered in the fields of psychology and anthropology emphasizes the relationships between the disciplines and broadens the students' perspectives. In addition to preparing the student for occupations and graduate work in sociology, the sociology degree offers valuable preparation for professions such as law, business, education, medicine, social work and public administration.
