How Do I Know If I Should Seek Counseling?

If you or someone you know has been:

  • ● Dealing with alcohol and drug abuse
  • ● Having difficulty concentrating
  • ● Feeling helpless or hopeless
  • ● Performing poorly at work and/or in class
  • ● Suffering from low self-esteem
  • ● Experiencing relationship conflict with relatives, friends, or significant others
    ● Experiencing a crisis or stressful event (death in family, divorce, or breakup of a relationship)
  • ● Experiencing suicidal thoughts

SOME COMMON SIGNS INDICATING THAT A STUDENT IS IN NEED OF HELP:

  • ● Lack of energy, listlessness, continually sleeping in class
  • ● Behavior that regularly interferes with effective management of your class
  • ● Frequent absence with little or no work completed
  • ● Marked changes in personal hygiene
  • ● Dramatic drop in academic performance
  • ● Always asking for special consideration/make-up excuses
  • ● Overly suicidal thoughts, sometimes expressed in writing
  • ● Inability to make decision despite your repeated attempts and encouragement
  • ● Dramatic weight loss or weight gain
  • ● Always making appointments to see you during office hours
  • ● High level of aggression, even violent behavior
