Center for Business and Economic Development

The Center for Business and Economic Development at GSW, housed in the School of Business Administration, provides support services to existing and potential business, economic development agencies, and local governments in the area served by Georgia Southwestern. These services and assistance include the conduct and dissemination of business and economic research, consultancy services, and development and conduct of staff development and training programs.

GSW-I-Tech

GSW-I-TECH is housed in the School of Computer and Information Sciences. It provides students with real-world projects and opportunities for research and internships and brings IT expertise to South Georgia, providing customers with high quality services and products at a low unit cost.  The School of Computer and Information Sciences has one of the most powerful computer environments in South Georgia, which allows us to develop projects based upon different operating platforms Windows, Solaris, and Linux.

Healthfirst TriFit Software System

The Healthfirst TriFit Software System has been integrated into the Department of Health and Human Performance.  It is used for fitness testing and evaluation, exercise prescription, and nutritional recommendations.

Hunter Education

Hunter Education is a web course given by the School of Education The purpose of Hunter Education is to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become safe, responsible hunters. Typically, students meet these needs by attending a traditional, instructor led course including classroom lectures and field/range experiences. In today's society, students have less free time to devote to attending a Hunter Education course.  Other Southeast states that are involved with the project are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

NCR

Web-i-Tech has been developed into the School of Computer and Information Sciences.  It is a non-profit applied research arm of Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. Established in 2003 through a partnership among Georgia Southwestern, NCR Corporation and The Intellectual Capital Partnership Program of the University System of Georgia, Web-i-Tech is focused on the innovative application of advanced internet technologies in the creation of self-service solutions to challenging real world problems.

Preparing Tomorrows Teachers to Use Technology  (PT3)

 

These are grants from the Department of Education for GSW's School of Education. It has been used to fund laptops and other equipment for our student teachers use.  The money has also funded workshops and faculty development for the university and participating consortia members.  Both grants together have encompassed a five year period and over 1.5 million dollars.

Sports Motion Analysis Review Tool (SMART)

SMART is currently being used by the Department of Health and Human Performance.  It is an easy to use software package to analyze and report on ANY sports motion captured on video.  Whether it is Baseball, Softball, Golf, Tennis, Track and Field, Rowing or any sport, SMART is a powerful tool to help enhance the performance of an athlete.  SMART is powerful enough to be used by researchers in Human Kinetics and Sports medicine, coaches and instructors, and simple enough to be used by parents and athletes.
