The English department at Southwestern helps students to develop their critical thinking skills and their ability to articulate thoughts. The department offers majors in English with a Literature concentration, English with a Professional Writing concentration, and English with Teaching Certification. The Professional Writing option is for those interested in pursuing various careers which focus on writing. This program places great emphasis on design, technique, and grammar in an effort to prepare students for writing in a professional capacity. Small, seminar-style classes offer majors unique opportunities for significant engagement of material and one-on-one interaction with professors and other students.
