Approved HOPE Changes
|
• The HOPE Scholarship will provide full tuition coverage for those students attending public colleges and universities to valedictorians, salutatorians, and students with a 3.7 GPA or higher and a combined 1200 SAT score on critical reading and math (in one sitting). This scholarship will be renamed the "Zell Miller HOPE Scholarship."
• To retain the Zell Miller HOPE Scholarship, a student must maintain a 3.3 GPA. If a student loses the Zell Miller HOPE Scholarship, he/she will be eligible for the traditional HOPE scholarship. |

• Students attending public colleges and universities earning a 3.0 GPA or higher will have 90% of their tuition costs covered by the traditional HOPE Scholarship. The percent of tuition that HOPE will cover each year will fluctuate depending on the amount of lottery funds available.
• The proposed program will eliminate all money for books or other mandatory fees. Mandatory fees can range from $400 - $900 per semester. Students should check with the institution they wish to attend for exact figures. Current Southwestern fees and several other USG institutions fees are listed here.
• Future high school students will be required to take "rigorous" classes to qualify for HOPE. Two academically rigorous courses will be required for graduating seniors in 2015, three in 2016, and four in 2017. Georgia Student Finance plans to meet with high school counselors in the new future to help define an "academically rigorous" course.
• If a student loses the HOPE Scholarship, he/she will only be able to regain it once.
