The Certificate in Women’s Studies program at Georgia Southwestern State University is a multi-disciplinary approach to the understanding of women’s positions and experiences in past and present societies. This certificate must be taken in conjunction with a 4-year degree. The program requires students to take 15 hours of curriculum in classes like Special Topics in Women’s Literature, Sex & Gender in Culture, and Women’s Health Care Issues. The Women’s Studies Certificate seeks to help students recognize and understand how their lives have been culturally constructed by notions of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and class in both a current and historical context.
