My reason for choosing Southwestern is the friendly and caring campus. Also the campus is laid out well so everything is easy to find! I like that the faculty and staff seem fun and friendly and I look forward to the Dual Engineering program that is in conjunction with Georgia Tech. After college I plan to start a job focused in IT and to pursue my dream of becoming a Software Engineer!

Coming Home

November 9, 2009

This weekend I went home to visit my family. Seeing their faces once again made me happy and excited to be home. The night I arrived, my parents had a delicious home cook meal well-prepared for me. My mouth watered and my eyes gazed over the hot wings, macaroni cheese, and corn bread. I haven’t had a meal like this in forever. GSW cafeteria is good but not like the parent’s cooking. Tomorrow, I’m going to Discover Mills Mall to shop for a dress. My friend is having a birthday party and I have to look my best! The best part about coming home is going shopping for food and supplies and you don’t have to pay a dime. Usually when I go home I try to get as much work done as possible because I want to be ahead instead of stressing out over assignments I have to complete. Well, Thanksgiving is in two more weeks, I can’t wait! I will be back at home again, this time bringing plastic bowls to take food back! LOL J

Friday Nights with the Girls

October 9, 2009

There is a tradition my friends and I started. Every Friday night we find ourselves picking out a movie to watch and then popping some delicious buttery popcorn. Girls’ nights are held mostly in my room. It is fun to kick back, relax, and set yourself apart from the outside for once. Besides having a fun-filled Friday night, I have been preparing for this upcoming weekend. It is Columbus Day October 19, therefore no school and I am happy about that. I have big plans this upcoming week, I am going to fly out to D.C to see some of my relatives. Before I pack and get ready to leave I am going to study for midterms. Sigh.... This week can also be stressful, but I anticipate the best. I knew coming into college that the process wasn't going to be easy, I was going to have to study and remain focused. The first few weeks I felt comfortable and it was easy to adjust, but now it is going deeper into to the semester the classes are getting a lot harder and require more studying. One thing I probably need to learn how to do better is manage my time wisely, it can seem overwhelming when you have to study for test and do several class assignments. The main idea is to still manage school work, but also to have fun while doing so.

I'm Experiencing New Things

September 4, 2009

For the past couple of days I had a fun time with my friends. I recently got involved in M.O.D.E.L.S and my mentor is so nice… fun to hang around with too. She took me and my other two friends who are also mentees out to eat. OMG!!! I never knew ZAXBY'S could taste so good.... Also, we went to the store and bought some clothes and shoes. It was fun to finally get away from the campus and have a relaxing day with the girls. When we arrived back on campus, my friends and I headed straight to the game room, but it was overcrowded so we decided to come back later. In the meantime, we passed the rock climbing wall which I plan to do sometime if I can ever bring myself to wear some proper shoes. I felt like playing basketball so I went to the gym and hooped it up with some new found friends. I have notice while I spend my time here, I have learned new things about myself… I am excellent at table tennis and really good at Guitar Hero but only when it’s on easy! Also, I find myself being very social at times which was out of my nature in high school. I feel so at ease here. I feel like I’m still in my confront zone, but I’m experiencing several new things. Well, it’s finally labor day weekend and I am all packed and ready to go back home to see friends and family. Bye for now Hurricanes!

Free at Last

August 20, 2009

When arriving on campus the first thought that came to my mind was that I was free at last!

When my parents and I arrived on campus for Move-In Day, we were welcomed by faculty, staff, students, and members of Greek life to help us carry everything to my room. Meeting my suite mate for the first time was exciting and unpacking all my stuff was fun because it was the first time I actually realized I was at my new home away from home.

After my family left, I caught up with some friends that I met at STORM Registration Day.  Students here are so inviting and so polite.  What I like most about the first weekend is the orientation program. The student members of the Orientation Team had several fun events to break the ice and barriers among the students and to teach us about doing well our freshmen year. The first day of class was very relaxing. The professors tried to make it stress free for us. Luckily, I didn’t have homework yet but I know I soon will.

On and off campus there are a lot of fun activities that students can participate, whether its sports, campus organizations, or the fraternities and sororities, there’s always something here to do. Southwestern has become the best place for me to have fun and learn at the same time. I look forward to the next year.
