Nursing
The first time I visited GSW I fell in love with it. I loved the
feeling that I was going to be a name, not just a number. I plan to
complete a Bachelors of Science in Nursing at GSW. Southwestern is
more than a college, it is a place where
I can finally reach my dreams. The journey of a thousand miles
begins with a single step, and GSW is my first step.

Spring Break
is Over!
March

I can’t believe
how far into this semester we already are, and even more how
this year is almost over! I have been so busy with sorority
stuff, being on the Orientation Team, and a part of the
Zephyr Recruitment Team. I have also worked a lot harder on
my grades this semester and have successfully pulled them up
drastically this semester. So… ladies and gentlemen, hard
work does pay off!
Spring break
was last week and it was a great way to end midterms and get
ready for the last part of the year. I defiantly feel the
heat and weight of classes after starting back, but I know I
just have to work a little harder… a little longer… and it
will pay off. I plan to take classes at GSW this summer to
get ahead for next year.
I recently
attended the Orientation Team trip called SROW. It was in
Louisville, Kentucky, and I had a great time. It sure was a
long bus ride, but I learned great techniques and all kinds
of new stuff to do with all you new freshmen. The
orientation team has already taught me so much and would be
a great organization for new students to join on campus.
Kappa Delta
still means the world to me. I have a bond with my sisters
that I can’t even begin to explain. This Saturday we have a
fundraiser called Shamrock which is a golf tournament, and I
CANT wait! If any girls are interested in rushing for
either sorority, I would love to talk to you, so
Facebook me or even email
me at
kwilkin2@radar.gsw.edu.
Actually anyone who would love to talk about college,
organizations, or even about moving away from home, I would
love to talk to anyone. I promise, no question is to small
or silly because I have been in your spot. I look forward
to hearing from you soon, and will post again shortly!

Excited to
Start the Semester!

Finals,
finals, finals, where should I begin? The week of finals was
a little rough, but I definitely learned my lesson. I
started studying about two weeks early for my finals and
should have started a tad bit earlier. My ending grades
were not too bad, but I feel like I could have done much
better. I was ready for finals to be over and for our
holiday break to start. As much as I love good old Americus,
I was very ready to get home and spend time with my family
and friends.
Christmas
break went way too fast, but when it was over I was ready to
pack ALL my clothes up and Christmas gifts and come back to
GSW. When I got back I was relieved and excited to start my
new semester. Sadly I had a lot of cleaning up to do in my
dorm because I didn’t clean before I left to come home.
The first
day of class started Thursday. I had step aerobics at 4:00
PM and biology at 6:30 PM. The classes were a success and I
feel very confident about them. That night and the weekend
I had a blast with my friends who I have missed so much over
the break. I was so glad to finally be back. Monday I had
two class which included English 1102 and Speech. I enjoyed
both of them but already feel the heat of being back at
school. My goal for this semester is to never procrastinate
or miss class!

Oh, How Time
Fly's....

I can’t
believe this semester is almost over. This past week I
have taken my last tests before finals in December. The
statement “time fly’s when your having fun” has defiantly
come true this semester. It was a hard adjustment. If it
wasn’t for the cozy campus and caring professors at GSW, I
don’t know where I would be right now. My sorority has
been AWESOME! I recently got initiated which means I am an
official sister of Kappa Delta. Right now we are doing
stuff with Girls Scouts of America and I can’t wait to get
started.
I
recently tried out and joined the O-team and Zephyr team! I
am so excited to be involved with new freshmen and people
transferring to Southwestern. If you come to Southwestern,
you may see me. I will be at Preview Day or you can request
me as your tour guide if you visit during the week. I want
everyone to feel the way I felt about coming to GSW. I hope
to see all of you come visit southwestern, because this is
something you don’t want to miss!

I Love the Small Class Sizes

I now call
Georgia Southwestern my home. I can’t believe that we are
already two months into the school year. Midterms were this
past week, and I am so glad that they are over. WHEW, what a
relief. I have a lot to update since the last blog I
posted.
In the middle
of September I had one of the most enjoyable, but most
stressful weeks weeks so far. That week was Sorority Rush.
I chose to join a sorority because I felt that it would be a
great way for me to make friends. Formal Rush lasted from
Wednesday to Saturday. Each day throughout the week we
dressed up and went to all these parties to meet the
different girls, each sorority, and learned what each stood
for. I thought after the first night that I knew what
sorority I wanted to join. On Saturday, which was bid day,
I received a bid of membership from Kappa Delta. I had a
great day with all my new sisters and have learned so much
about every one. I love each and everyday I get to do
something with my sorority sisters. We already had an
awesome time playing flag football and competing to raise
money for children during a fun week called Derby Days.
Kappa Delta is my family and my home away from home. Every
girl should get a chance to experience what I did through KD.
It has been a
long two weeks preparing for midterms. I also recently
changed my major to Special Education. I changed majors
because I had the hardest time deciding if I should do
nursing or special education and after a long consideration,
I realized that nursing wasn’t for me. My heart and soul
was with all the children who are special in their own way.
I can’t wait to start learning about my new major!

I Love the Small Class Sizes

First
off college is not as easy as I thought it would be.
Honestly, class can be very difficult. I learned over
the last few weeks of being at GSW that you HAVE to go
home and review your notes and study. If you don’t, well
then you will get very behind. I am extremely impressed
with my small classes though. My biggest class is my
biology class which has a little over 30 people, and my
smallest class is my biology lab which has about 17. I
LOVE the small classes, because I feel like the
professor is talking to me not anyone else. GSW so far
has had a great learning environment.
Some
of the friends I have met on the first day of school
here at GSW have turned in to great friends. My
Residence Assistances are so AWESOME and are here for
any of us on our floor whenever we need them. One of my
RA’s is also my tutor, which is very convenient. My
roommate Chelsea and I get along great. We do everything
together and she has become such a good friend to me.
GSW
still impresses me greatly and I absolutely LOVE my
school still. I can’t wait to see what the future of GSW
holds for me over the next few weeks. Anyone considering
GSW needs to come see the beautiful campus here. My
email is
kwilkin2@radar.gsw.edu
and anyone can email me and I will be glad to show you
around the campus from a student’s point of view.

I Feel at
Home
August 21, 2009
|

Move-In Day can be known as the scariest day in a pre-
college student’s life. I know that’s how I felt upon
arriving at Move-In Day on August 15, but the minute I
jumped out of the car I was surrounded by willing
college students including sorority and fraternity
members that helped me bring all my stuff up to my
room. It was such a success and it was actually a lot
of fun. Also, for lunch one of the fraternities made us
hamburgers and everyone went out and had a great time
meeting new people. I had a hard time saying goodbye to
my parents, but an hour after they left it was amazing
how much Southwestern made me feel at home.
Sunday was Orientation Day, and we had to be at the
Student Success Center after lunch. Upon walking in the
building we were welcomed by these awesome people called
the O-Team. Basically they were there to make sure the
first few days of college went as smoothly as possible,
and they did a great job. We played some silly get to
you know games, but it wound up to be so much fun. My
favorite part of that whole day was realizing that my
whole entire class of 2013 was in the arena together.
Not many colleges do a program like this one.
Before the first night of class, I did not sleep too
well. When my alarm when off at 8 o clock I jumped right
up and headed down to the dining hall to get some great
breakfast to wake me up. My roommate, Chelsea, and I had
gone out the day before to find our classes so we knew
where they were. My first class was psychology and we
had a great time in that class. I think that will be my
favorite of all my classes. Later I had Biology, English
1101, and then the GSW Experience.
Overall
my first few days here at GSW have defiantly been a
success. A lot of my friends went home this weekend, but
I love it here so much that I did not want to leave. My
roommate and I both agree that everyone here is so
friendly and we think we may have met some of our
lifelong friends already. I can’t wait to see what the
future at Southwestern holds for me.

I am Kaitlin Wilkinson
August 14, 2009
|
My name
is Kaitlin Wilkinson and I have moved all over the
country. I was originally born in Kennesaw, but grew up
in New Jersey and consider it my home. My family moved
back to Georgia about five years ago, and I am lucky
they did because I found the college I now call my home.
I
really enjoyed Starr's Mill High School because I was very
involved there. I was a varsity cheerleader, a member of the
Spanish and Key Clubs as well as being very active in Health
Occupation Students of America. Within that organization I
participated in competitions and placed third in state for
physical therapy and first for occupational therapy. This
organization also gave me the opportunity to collect over
150 volunteer hours over the past year. I was also the
cheerleading coach of the special needs children at my
school.
I plan
to make this year the very best it can be at Southwestern.
The first time I visited GSW I fell in love with it. I loved
the feeling that I was going to be a name, not just a
number. I plan to complete a Bachelors of Science in Nursing
at GSW. Southwestern is more than a college, it is a place
where I can finally reach my dreams. The journey of a
thousand miles begins with a single step, and GSW is my
first step.
At
Southwestern I plan to join a sorority. I also plan to join
the GSWANS, an organization for the nursing students. I
would also like to be a part of the Zephyr Recruitment or
Orientation Teams and join the Baptist College Ministries on
campus.
Upon
graduating from GSW I plan to go on to Physicians Assistant
School and work with special needs children.
