Domestic Violence Education and Awareness Project

“Fight Like A Girl” is an event held by the students of Dr. Kuiper's Introduction to Women’s Studies class. The event is to help raise awareness about domestic violence. All of the proceeds raised by the class will go to the local organization, the Americus Family Violence Council.


Sunday, April 6
2:30 p.m. 
GSW Intramural Field 


Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. and cost $5.
The run begins at 3 p.m. and will end at 4 p.m.
T-shirts will be available for $10 and bracelets for $1. 

 


Monday, April 7
3:30 p.m.
Centennial Fountain


Co-sponsored by the Chi Phi fraternity.
Entry fee into the walk is $5.
Don high heels and walk the campus to experience what it is like to walk a mile in her shoes!



Tuesday, April 8
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
GSW Gym



The event will conclude with a seminar, self-defense class and candlelight vigil starting at the GSW gym.

  • The seminar speaker will a member of Campus Police.
  • The self-defense class will start around 6:20 p.m. It will be taught by Dr. Laughlin and Campus Police and it will last about an hour.
  • The candlelight vigil will start about 7:40 p.m. on the lawn outside of the gym. 

Information about the signs of domestic abuse will be available at all the events.
