GSW launches new website with Percussion CM1
Revamped site offers new look, improved navigation

AMERICUS, Ga. (Feb. 24, 2012)—Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) launched its newest version of www.gsw.edu on Percussion CM1 – a cutting-edge Web Content Management System (WCMS). With the launch, the University’s site has a brand new design and an improved navigational structure.

“I am genuinely pleased with our website’s new look,” said GSW President Kendall Blanchard, Ph.D. “Our website is and will continue to be the first impression that many prospective students have of Georgia Southwestern. As they say, ‘you only get one chance to make a good first impression.’ I am confident that the new and improved version of www.gsw.edu will help to ensure that in the days to come, the University will be making many good first impressions.”

A WCMS allows users with little knowledge of web programming languages to easily manage website content. In implementing CM1, GSW built a new set of design templates and modified the navigation structure of gsw.edu. And with its user-friendly approach, Percussion CM1 functionality can be added to the site by simply by dragging and dropping new features.

“A limited number of individuals are familiar with Web programming on any college campus or in any business,” said Stephen Snyder, director of GSW University Relations. “As a result, Georgia Southwestern’s need for a Web Content Management System was important. GSW faculty and staff will now have the freedom to edit and update their content with more ease.”

The navigation design closely resembles that of the former site, but the aesthetics are fresh and a pleasant reprieve from the old look. The most noticeable difference is the large rotating image slideshow on the home page and the drop-down menus on the primary navigation bar.

“GSW’s Web developer, Mingxuan Li, did a fantastic job designing and rebuilding the site,” added Snyder. “Her insight into the optimal structure of a website and her design acumen will make searching for and finding information a much friendlier experience.”

Planning for the new Web site began in Spring 2011. Departments and organizations from across Georgia Southwestern played a pivotal role in implementing the overhaul.
