AMERICUS (June 1, 2012)—The Georgia Southwestern Foundation Board of Trustees held its spring full board meeting last month, electing one new trustee (Mary Wysochansky – ’87, ’93) and re-elected four current members.

Skipper is new chairman, group elects new trustee, re-elects four others

AMERICUS (June 1, 2012)—The Georgia Southwestern Foundation Board of Trustees held its spring full board meeting last month, electing one new trustee (Mary Wysochansky – ’87, ’93) and re-elected four current members. The group also granted life trustee status to Judge Mike Greene and Greg Austin. Nominated and elected by their peers, the 30-member group provides external oversight to the Foundation’s operations. Local attorney Jimmy Skipper is the new chairman, replacing Americus Mayor Barry Blount. Skipper will serve a two-year term as chairman.

Wysochansky is the past president of the Georgia Southwestern Alumni Association Board ofzMaryWy Directors, serving from 2010 to 2012. A family nurse practitioner, Wysochansky is the founder and owner of After Hours Care in Americus. Extremely active in the community, she and her business partner Anna Stinchcum founded the Sumter Faith Clinic. Wysochansky is also a Sumter Historic Trust board member. She is married to retired GSW Chemistry Professor William Wysochansky, Ph.D.

Trustees accepting additional three-year terms are Will Peterson (’00, ‘03), human resource manager at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital; Sam Hunter (’73), vice president of SB&T Bank in Americus; Ginger Starlin (’72), owner of Ginger Starlin State Farm Insurance Agency; and Tom Weiland, Ph.D., GSW professor of geology.

The Foundation provides funds for Georgia Southwestern and manages assets and gift accounts for the University. The Foundation’s purpose is to promote in various ways the cause of higher education in the state of Georgia, with particular emphasis on the development of Georgia Southwestern State University.
