AMERICUS (April 24, 2013)—During Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) Honors Convocation earlier this month, nursing major Logan Hanley, a graduate of Southland Academy, was presented with the University’s highest academic honor, the 2013 Outstanding Scholar Award.
The recipient of this award represents Georgia Southwestern during the University System of Georgia’s (USG) annual Academic Recognition Day in the Georgia General Assembly. Hanley was one of only 31 students in the USG honored on that day. He received a letter from Chancellor Hank Huckaby congratulating him and a proclamation from Governor Nathan Deal.
The Outstanding Scholar Award represents superb scholastic achievement. To be considered for this award, the student must have a near-perfect grade point average (GPA) and be a senior. Hanley’s GPA is indeed perfect – a 4.0.
While a student at Southwestern, Hanley served as senior student representative to School of Nursing faculty, was a member the GSW Association of Student Nurses, GSW Nursing Honor Society, made the President’s List every semester and was a member of the GSW Concert Choir. Hanley is a member of the GSW Honors Program and will graduate with Honors Program distinction in May with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.
