GSW, Sumter County Schools meet, discuss ways to improve college readiness

AMERICUS (Feb. 6, 2013)—Administrators from Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and Sumter County Schools met Friday, Feb. 1 to talk about ways both organizations can improve preparedness for aspiring college students. Among topics discussed was enhancing communication, creating a “college-bound culture,” addressing curriculum needs, and developing an annual essay writing contest designed to make students aware of the importance of good writing, with prizes in the form of GSW scholarships. The group will reconvene soon and plans to work together closely in the future.
