Donors, scholars honored, GSW debuts ‘Thank You’ video

AMERICUS (March 29, 2013)—Scholarship recipients at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) shared a meal with their benefactors Thursday, March 14 at a luncheon honoring the two groups.

Sponsored by Georgia Southwestern and the GSW Foundation, approximately 135 donors and scholars were on hand for the event which took place in the private dining room of the Thomas O. Marshall, Jr. Pavilion. The featured speakers included Cynthia Johnson, a senior English/teacher certification major and recipient of the Mattie H. Marshall and Power Scholarships; and Holly Peacock, a senior nursing major and recipient of the Wheeler-Parker and Rylander Scholarships.

“This luncheon provides a wonderful opportunity for donors and scholars to get to know each other,” said Reda Rowell, GSW Foundation executive director. “Students really appreciate the chance to personally say thank you to their benefactors, which leads to a very rewarding experience for donors and their families. On behalf of the entire Foundation Board of Trustees, we appreciate all who came to the event and the generosity of our friends and alumni who make scholarships possible.”

At the close of the program, Rowell played a short video in which the scholarship recipients thanked donors for their generosity. The video, now available on GSW’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/GeorgiaSouthwestern), was produced by the Office of University Relations and the Office of Information and Instructional Technology.

This was the fifth Donor/Scholar Luncheon put on by GSW and the Foundation. They plan to host it again in spring of 2014.
