AMERICUS (Nov. 18, 2011)--University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Henry M. “Hank” Huckaby made his first visit to Georgia Southwestern State University today. His trip to GSW’s campus was the final stop of a whirlwind tour to visit all 35 USG campuses (36, including Skidaway Institute of Oceanography in Savannah) before Thanksgiving, beginning back in August.
The University System’s 12th chancellor, Huckaby took over July 1, 2011 following the retirement of Chancellor Erroll B. Davis, Jr. During his visit, Huckaby met individually with groups from the faculty, the student body, the administration and local leaders from the community.
Prior to being named chancellor, Huckaby served as director of Georgia’s Office of Planning and Budget from 1991-1995, and he served as the senior vice president of Finance and Administration at the University of Georgia from 2000-2006.
This past January, Huckaby was sworn in to represent Georgia House District 113 as a Republican before his most recent appointment. Overall, Huckaby has served the USG or other state agencies for more than 40 years.
