GSW, Waycross College sign transfer agreement
COLUMBUS, Ga.—Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) President Kendall A. Blanchard signed a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) Monday, April 15 with Waycross College President David Palmer in Columbus amidst the April Board of Regents meetings. This is the sixth TAG agreement that Georgia Southwestern has signed since August 2007.
Through the agreement, Waycross students who maintain a 2.0 grade point average and earn an associate’s degree, or who complete 60 transferable credits (30 of which must be earned at Waycross), can seamlessly transfer to Georgia Southwestern. As a result, Waycross students interested in a bachelor’s degree at Georgia Southwestern can plan a transfer well before graduation.
Founded in 1970, Waycross College is a two-year institution located in rural South Georgia and serves a ten-county area adjacent to the Okefenokee Swamp. Waycross College has a student population of 800 and features 30 associate degree programs.
"Waycross College is an excellent two-year institution that serves many talented students who are looking to complete their education at a four-year school,” said Blanchard. “By this agreement, both Waycross and Georgia Southwestern are pledging to work together to increase the educational opportunities for Waycross College graduates."
"Waycross College is honored to enter into this official transfer agreement partnership with Georgia Southwestern,” said Palmer. “Guaranteeing a smooth, seamless transition for Waycross graduates into their junior and senior year at Southwestern is a win-win opportunity - for Waycross, for Southwestern, and especially, for our joint students.
“My thanks go to President Blanchard for initiating this. We will encourage our Swamp Fox students to become Hurricanes!"
Georgia Southwestern had 233 transfer students enrolled entering the Fall 2007 semester. The agreement with Waycross College was signed in hopes that this number would increase considerably boosting enrollment campus-wide.
The guarantee is effective immediately.
