My name is Sarah Humphries and I am an excited freshman at GSW. I am from Jones County and I grew up in the small town of Gray, GA. Throughout high school I was a very involved student. I served on many boards and panels of leaders in my community with organizations such as FBLA, FCA and 4-H. I also participated in the marching band all four years of high school and Color Guard my senior year. Since elementary school I have been a very active 4-H’er in my county. I had to honor of serving on the board of representatives all throughout high school and I was a summer 4-H camp counselor at camp Wahsega in Dahlonega. At Southwestern I plan to join o-team (orientation team) and to go Greek. I also hope to find a church in the community that best fits my personality and worship styles. I chose to go to GSW because of the intimate university feel; along with all of the extra activities that GSW and the community of Americus has to offer to their students. I am a Pre-Med major and hope to one day become a pediatric surgeon and I know that with all of the study groups and extra help that GSW offers their students, I will be able to be an involved and serious student.
I'm a Lady Hurricane
September 9 , 2011
One of the big deciding factors for me attending GSW was the fact that my best friend was here. She is part of the Greek Life and I wanted nothing more than to become a part of ZTA and be her sister. Once here, I went through the recruitment process and hung out with the girls. All of the girls are great.
During high school I was a member of the marching band and the colorguard. Well, GSW unfortunately does not have a marching band or a colorguard team, but they do have a Cheerleading team. I noticed all around campus there were flyers about trying out for Cheerleading. I was interested in becoming a Lady Hurricane Cheerleader for our basketball team, so I went to the coach and talked with her. After a long week of practice and a short tryout, I headed home to wait for a phone call to let me know if I made the team or not. I’m proud to say that I am a Lady Hurricane Cheerleader. Since I made the team, I decided not to join a sorority. I love being on the cheerleading team at GSW. I can’t wait until the pep-rally and our first Basketball game. I know that joining the Cheerleading team was the right GSW experience for me.

Moving In to Welcome Week
August 20 , 2011
During my first week at GSW I have already made so many new friends and found several people that I have classes with. “Welcome Week” at GSW made things a little easier with the workshops and classes we have attended. In these workshops, they brought my graduating class of 2015 together and built up some school spirit. The O’team is awesome and I hope to be a part of it next year.
Whenever I arrived on campus for move in day, I was so worried that it was going to take forever to move my stuff into my private room. Everyone had told me… “Sarah you have to much stuff.” Once I started moving all of my stuff into my room, I began to believe they may be right, but I ended up only having to make two trips to my car. Southwestern staff and students and the local churches had people who were more than willing to help me get my stuff to my room, it was great! I am glad that Libby (my roommate) and I are all moved in and settled in our new home.
