Hey! My name is Rebecca Raschke and I am from Hawkinsville, Georgia which is about 50 miles from GSW. My main plan and goal for my first year is to focus on my studies. I would love to complete my degree in 4 years. I also would like to join a sorority.
I am excited about being in the first group of nursing GAP students. GAP is the Guaranteed Acceptance Program for the School of Nursing. Students accepted into the GAP have a guaranteed place in the School of Nursing. Southwestern also opened a new nursing building which is incredible.
I chose Southwestern because of the comforting feeling it gives off. When I took my tour of GSW, I didn’t want to look at any other colleges. Everyone made me feel welcome and I was already part of the "family" at GSW. I also loved the location, it’s not too far from home… yet it's not too close. I look forward to sharing this first year of my college life with everyone.
Amazing Break but Glad to be Back!
January 7, 2013
YAY! It’s back to GSW! My Christmas break was AMAZING! I had so much fun! I went to Helen, Georgia for a few days and then helped my dad move into his new house. I also got everything that I wanted for Christmas, plus more.
Although I had a great time with my family during the break, I missed my best friend, Kristin, like CRAZYYYY!! I am excited to see what this semester will bring. I am taking some online classes this semester, so I'm nervous to see how they will work out!
The Goal was Accomplished
December 11, 2012
Well, I ended first semester off on a good note. I passed all of my finals and passed all of my classes. My goal was to keep my GPA above a 3.0 and I accomplished that goal. Overall this semester was a good semester and I can’t wait to see what next semester has in store for me. I am now better prepared for next semester due to the mistakes I made this one.
For Christmas break I plan to spend a long weekend with my mom’s family in Atlanta and a few days helping my daddy move into his new house. Merry Christmas to all!
The Stress has Returned
December 05, 2012
Thanksgiving break was such a stress reliever. I enjoyed spending time with my friends and family at home. During the break I tried to avoid school as much as possible. But as soon as the break was over, stress filled my head again because of the upcoming finals.
I have to take three finals and am beyond stressed about it. Studying for finals is such a hard task. I can’t even figure out where to begin. I cannot wait until finals are finally over and Christmas break will be here.
Bubble Gum Crayon
November 02, 2012
Halloween at Southwestern was packed with events. On Wednesday, a group of children from the boys and girls club came through the residence hall to trick or treat! We sat on the couches in the hallway and passed out candy to the little kids as they came down the hall! Since I had a test Thursday morning, I decided to wait until Thursday night to dress up. I went to the fraternity houses for their Halloween parties! I dressed up as a Bubble Gum color crayon and had tons of fun! Halloween was a success at GSW!! I even spotted Waldo at the party.
No Time to Sleep
October 09, 2012
MIDTERM WEEK: full of studying and no sleep!!! Midterms were the most stressful thing yet! I studied more during midterm week than I did my whole high school career. College midterms are so much more different than high school midterms. I can honestly say that all the studying paid off. It was much worth it when I got my grades back and I had passed all of my midterms! Just remember during midterm week… STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!

How to survive the first month of college! My advice would be to have as much fun as possible when you’re done with your school work! As soon as you’re caught up with work, go out and have a good time. You cannot be stressed about school work. Yes, it may seem stressful, but make it not as stressful by studying with friends. Midterms are scary, but the “stay up all night cram session” thing actually worked for me.
Another tip would be to visit family often! Get away from the campus for a weekend or two! The dorm beds can get old after a while, and there is nothing like your mama’s home cooking. Lastly, make friends... any friends... anyone. These friends you make are ones that may possibly be your bridesmaids or groomsmen. Surviving the first month of college is easy, just have fun!
Workin' for a Livin'
September 8, 2012
The first few weeks of school have been a big adjustment, but I’ve handled it well. My classes are not bad at all, I really enjoy them. My favorite class would have to be English 1101 with Dr. Ross. I seem to be making good grades so far! I have every one of my classes with my best friend from my hometown, Danielle Land. I am also thankful to have Wesley, Jacob, and Earl from my hometown as well!
I also enjoy hanging out with my new friends, Jessi, Kristin, and Kaii. I got a job working the night shift at Zaxby’s as a cashier and absolutely love it! For Labor Day Weekend, I went home to spend time with family. I loved having the holiday off and can’t wait until the next one!
Great Friends... Great Fun
August 18, 2012
Move-in day was the most nerve wrecking day. It seems as if I didn’t pack anything I actually needed. I have made countless trips to Wal-Mart this week.
Orientation was a great way for me to meet new people and it helped me find people that were in class with me. I absolutely love my classes. My professors seem to be the right ones for me. I have already had a ton of work to do, and I have actually stayed up to date with the work.
The first week of activities at Southwestern have been amazing and I’m ready for many more to come! On Tuesday Chi Phi had a toga party that my roommate, Kaii, and I went to. It was a great time to hang out with people and meet others. On Monday Southwestern had a build a bear event. I went with my friends, Kaitlyn and Kristin, and I made a little teddy bear! On Thursday, we went to the Sigma Chi house for the DJ Esko party, which was also a great party, with lots of dancing, and meeting new people.
This first week at Southwestern has taught me a lot. I have had to prioritize my time between my social life and my school work. Also, sorority recruitment begins this week and I’m overly excited about it!
Packing Amongst the Tears!
August 10, 2012
I knew Southwestern was the place for me as soon as I went to preview day! I like the size of the school, and the campus. I've known many people that have attended Southwestern and loved it! I am looking forward to beginning this new chapter in life, along with all the emotions and adventures it will bring.
Move in day is in a few hours and I'm waiting till the last minute to pack because it just doesn't seem real. I'm pretty sure I've got way too much stuff. My best friend is crying on one side, my mother on the other; and me, I’m wondering what's next and where do I begin! I'm ready to experience college life! I'm ready to see what it's all about! Here we go!
