Requirements for Incoming Nursing Students

The School of Nursing will make its decisions and mail a letter to all applicants by:

  • Fall Traditional BSN Admission: mid-March
  • Spring Traditional BSN Admission: mid-Sept.
  • Fall 2nd Degree BSN Program Admission: mid/late April
  • RN-BSN Program-within 2-3 weeks after the published deadline

As part of the admissions process, after notification of their acceptance status from the School of Nursing, all "conditionally" accepted nursing students should review the  School of Nursing student handbook  and The Student Information Packet for the online student tracking system that will be sent to them with their Acceptance Letter and Packet of Information.

All nursing students are required to have the following documentation signed and on file with the School of Nursing prior to the start of class for the semester they enter the program. These forms and information will be sent to them with their Acceptance Letter and Packet of Information.

The following documentation must be submitted via www.certifiedbackground.com  (you will need the following codes: GE06bg and GE06dt) online immunization trackers thru the MAGNUS HEALTH PORTAL upon acceptance to the School of Nursing prior to the first day of class:

  • Proof of RN Licensure (for RN-BSN Program applicants)

  • CPR certification; American Health Association for Healthcare Providers with expiration date visible (certification must not expire during the semester).

  • Proof of liability/malpractice Insurance (minimum 1 million coverage with expiration date visible-coverage must not expire during the semester).

  • Background check (required once) Must be purchased from Certified Background.com If previously purchased from Pre-Check, upload receipt for this requirement on tracker.

  • Drug Test (required annually) Must be purchased from Certified Background.com If previously purchased from Pre-Check, upload receipt for this requirement on tracker.

  • Completed Statement of Health and Physical Evaluation Form: (upload these forms or current physical exam form if employed by healthcare provider)

  • Proof of required immunizations (must be current and complete)

  • TB/PPD 1-Step (test must not expire during the semester

  • Positive PPD/TB screening questionnaire (only do if TB/PPD 1-Step was positive)

  • Proof of x-ray results (only do if positive TB/PPD 1-Step test and screening questionnaire)

    Note: Records entered on immunization trackers will not satisfy GSW Health Center requirements. GSW required health records must be sent directly to the GSW Health Center

     "Under no circumstances may a student take a nursing course with a clinical component without a record of all of the mandatory documents. (Refer to GSW Nursing Student Handbook)

(For RN-BSN students) The School of Nursing has also provided an Online Orientation for newly accepted RN-BSN students to help facilitate your academic journey in our program
