MARY G. DUPREE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in memory of Mary G. Dupree by the J. Frank Myers family. The purpose of the fund is to assist students in good standing in attaining a degree in teacher education.
GLYNN MATHIS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established by Glynn Mathis, an alumnus of GSW and a retired career educator in the State of Georgia. This scholarship is awarded to deserving students (undergraduate or graduate) showing financial need that meet admission standards or requirements at Georgia Southwestern and are pursuing a degree in Education and plan to teach. Preference is given to student athletes demonstrating academic proficiency and athletic skills in any of the intercollegiate sports offered at Georgia Southwestern.
JAMES KIRT MYERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. James “Kirt” Myers, a dedicated GSW Administrator, teacher, coach, and father died tragically in an automobile accident in 2001. His family, friends, and students began this endowment to honor his memory for his contributions to GSW and the Americus community. The award is available to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and who have been admitted to teacher education with a Special Education Major.
BETTIE TOLSON RHYNE SCHOLARSHIP
Claude L. Rhyne, Ph.D. of Americus, GA, established this memorial scholarship to honor his wife. This scholarship is for a graduate student who is pursuing a Master’s degree in reading. If there is no graduate student who applies in this field of study, consideration will be given to a student or students in the Masters Degree Program in Computer Science.
MARGARET RHYNE WAGENER and ROBERT LEE RHYNE SCHOLARSHIP
Claude Rhyne, the brother of Margaret R. Wagener and Robert Rhyne, established this scholarship as a lasting tribute to their memory. This scholarship is to be awarded to a student admitted to the School of Education with a major emphasis on Special Education. Applicants must demonstrate a need and maintain a GPA of 2.5.
THE RANDY WILLIAMS – JOANNA WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP
The Randy Williams Scholarship is given in memory of Randy Williams, a former student in Developmental Stud-ies at Georgia Southwestern College. Like many of our students, Randy began his college career in Developmental Studies and went on to become an exceptional GSW student. This award is given to promote the fine qualities of scholarship, leadership and character which he exhibited.
The student who receives this award must have exited the Developmental Studies Program, be a continuing student at GSW, have earned at least 45 hours but no more than 90 hours of academic credit , have a 2.5 GPA and be present to accept the award at the appropriate ceremony
CIVITAN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship established by the Civitan Club of Americus will be awarded to a student admitted to the School of Education at GSW and who has declared a Special Education major. The award is based on highest GPA in college curriculum. Two $500 awards will be made each year based on available funds. Selection is made by the School of Education’s scholarship committee.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE MADE BY THE FACULTY OF THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED BY THE DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION UPON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE. APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS SPRING SEMESTER ALL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ARE BASED ON FUND AVAILABILITY.
