Sirocco, a magazine of the arts, is published in April of each year by students at Georgia Southwestern State University.  A senior unit of the University System of Georgia, GSW is an affirmative action / equal opportunity institution.  The magazine is graciously funded by the Student Government and the GSW Foundation.  Opinions expressed in the magazine are neither those of the editors nor those of the University.

Submissions must not have been previously published. They are welcome at any time, but cannot be read and acted upon except during January and February.  All submissions must be typed and must follow the magazine's format.  Basic biographical information about the submitter must be included.  Authors and artists should have some present or past affiliation with Georgia Southwestern.  No work will be returned unless accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

LITERARY

DEADLINE: January 31, 2014

Written works have the following length restrictions:

  • Poetry – 40 lines
  • Essay, short story, or 1 Act – 3000 words

Proofreading is the responsibility of the author.

All submissions must be submitted electronically to gswsirocco@gmail.com or by disc to Dr. Moir (English 239). If you submit a disc, please include your name and your email address.

Multiple submissions are allowed. (Please submit multiple submissions on the same CD).

Once the submission is received, a release form will be emailed back. This must be filled out and sent back or dropped off at Dr. Moir's office (English 239).

ART

DEADLINE: January 31, 2014 

There is no limit to the number of submissions. All media (with the exception of time-based works) are welcomed. Preferred image format is 300 dpi in CMYK color mode.

Once the submission is received, a release form will be emailed to you. This must be filled out and sent back or dropped off at Dr. Moir's office (English 239).

OPTIONAL: You may include a short artist statement (250 word limit) with your entry.

MUSIC

DEADLINE: December 13, 2013 

All submissions must be original compositions or in the public domain. 

Compositions can be of any length.

All submissions must be a studio quality recording on a CD with your name, contact information (email or phone number), major, and a description of the piece(s) or of the inspiration.

Multiple submissions are allowed. (Please submit multiple submissions on the same CD).

Music submissions and questions should be sent to Dr. Mark Laughlin (Mark.Laughlin@gsw.edu) of the music department.

 COVER ART CONTEST

Same art submissions guidelines as above apply.

Any art submitted to the magazine for publication will automatically be entered in the Cover Contest.

The winner will be featured on the cover of the 2014 edition of Sirocco and receive a cash prize.
